Common Toads are in trouble: recent declines in the south and east of England have led to them being declared one of the UK’s many ‘priority species’ for conservation action under the national Biodiversity Action Plan.

It seems a distinct possibility that toads are one of the early casualties of climate change.

But this is not the only problem toads are facing: as they migrate to and from their breeding ponds they often have to cross busy roads, and many toads get squashed.

Tunnels are one way of keeping migrating toads away from cars and lorries – but where its too expensive to make tunnels people can help toads cross roads on the way to their ponds.

If you want to help toads across the road, you can join the scheme run by Froglife and the UK Amphibian & Reptile Groups.

Help toads to go those extra few yards to the safety of their breeding ponds.
