Dog ponds

An increasingly common sight is the ‘dog pond’ – a pond near a footpath which is regularly visited by dogs and their owners as part of the daily walk.

It’s great fun for both – letting your dog have a spash about is part of life, harmless fun like feeding the ducks and playing Pooh-sticks.

The problem is – dogs are not so good for ponds, at least not small ponds like this one. And when decent ponds are in such short supply, there’s a danger your favourite wildlife haven will end up like this, a soupy green mess

I don’t know how many ponds are affected – this is one I saw today. I think there will probably turn out to be lots.
