The garden pond today
The pond is looking in good shape after the cold weather.
A quick dip reveals dozens of pond olive mayflies and I can see some tiny caddis larvae which I’m most proud of because they really are showing the pond is working like a real natural pond.
I can see beetles, water boatmen, backswimmers, the larva of a broad-bodies chaser dragonfly and the larva of a large red damselfly – this was with just two dips with the sieve – maybe just 20 seconds of actual dipping.
So things are looking good after the cold snap.
Oh, and last night I saw three frogs hanging about under the water.
