I made a very rough sketch earlier of the cross section of my pond.
Now I thought I’d say a bit more about shallow water.
Wildlife in ponds generally prefers shallow water.
But what is shallow water?
If you take a look at the typical preformed ponds you see on sale in garden centres you might assume that shallow is 20-30 cm.
In fact shallow is 1-2 cm.
How do you make shallow water? By having edges that are so shallow they barely have any water on them at all.
A good cross section would look something like the picture above.
This is something you have to make: you can’t buy preformed pond linings that look like this.
